Kumada Kaourou (as Buta Gorilla in the Neighbor) is a type of neighborhood bully, who also share similar traits of Gian (Takeshi Goda) except that he often helps his family's shop. He loves vegetables. He also helps Kitretsu. His father owns a vegetable shop. Unlike Gian he likes taking care of his dad's shop.He is even Known to be a dimwitted Character and always makes mistake.and he will speakly as he is mostly been corrected by Tongari. He wears a blue T-Shirt with white stripes, a brown pants and a blue cap. He often troubles Tongari. He is afraid of green caterpillar. He often gets low marks in his report card. He is the most popular student in class for his mischievous behaviour. He gets good grades in sports. He often tells people that he never becomes ill but gets fever during mathematics examination. He has a good knowledge of vegetables and is very passionate about his family vegetable shop. The origin of the name was "I wanted to give a good name to my child because Kumahachi was a strange name," so it was destined to be named "Kaoru" regardless of whether he was born to a man or woman. The name is often used for a woman hence embarrassed by his real name, he calls himself with a derogatory nickname, "Buta Gorilla." Later on he was ok with it when he visited his family in past using kiteretsu's time machine.
In earlier episodes he used to bully Korosuke and some other classmates along with Tongari. He also wanted Miyoko's attention. Later, in TV anime his character was shown just as a dimwit strong boy who often created trouble unintentionally but has a good heart. Although he still bullied Korosuke but also secretly cared for him. Just like Tongari, Butagorilla also likes a girl named Sakurai Taiko. Taiko is a sweet natured girl who lives with her mom who runs a public bathhouse. She transferred to Butagorilla's school for short term and due to various reasons moved to hokaido/niigata (unclear). She visits the group sometimes and seems to reciprocate Butagorilla's feelings.
